The country also has more interesting cultural texture than its neighbors — Nelson's Dockyard is a UNESCO site, the cricket grounds are functional, the carnival in late July is genuine.

What to weigh: variance between the two market tiers is enormous. The mass-tourism end (Jolly Beach Resort and similar) sits at the bottom of the score distribution and is the wrong call at almost any price; the boutique end is uniformly strong. Pick the wrong tier and the country disappoints. Sandals Grande Antigua is the brand's serviceable mid-tier presence here. And Antigua skews expensive — the boutique strict-couples properties run premium pricing.
