Adults only, actually.

There are three different products being sold under the same name. Knowing which one you're buying is half the booking.

"Adults only" in resort marketing means at least three different things, and you'll book the wrong one if you don't know which:

  • 16+ or 18+ resorts. No young kids, but expect older teens. The property is calmer than a family resort but you'll still occasionally hear the words "Snapchat" and "TikTok" at the pool bar.
  • Couples-only resorts. Strict — Sandals popularized this, but several non-Sandals properties enforce it equally. No solo travelers, no friends groups, no single-parent trips. The vibe is uniformly romantic, sometimes claustrophobically so.
  • Boutique adults-only wings inside larger family resorts. The structural compromise — you get the calm of a small property with the amenities of a big one. Examples on this list: Serenity at Coconut Bay, Palafitos. The honest trade-off is you'll occasionally see kids walking past the wall.

The list below cuts across all three. We've noted which is which in each blurb so you can pick the right product, not just the right name. Every resort here scored 95 or higher across our eight data sources — which puts them in the top 1.5% of the 957 resorts in the index.

The 10 highest-scoring adults-only resorts

Capped at two per country to keep the list useful instead of 60% Mexico.

01
Nayara Bocas Del Toro - All Inclusive - (16+ Allowed)
99
/ 100

Nayara Bocas Del Toro - All Inclusive - (16+ Allowed)

Tierra Oscura, Panama·Adults Only·$11.9k / wk
Sixteen plus, overwater villas in Panama's archipelago, our highest-scored all-inclusive full stop. The "16+" age cutoff is real and enforced — meaning the property is genuinely adult-quiet, not "adults plus older teens screaming in the pool" quiet.
02
Coco Plum Island Resort
99
/ 100

Coco Plum Island Resort

Coco Plum Cay, Belize·Adults Only·$7.0k / wk
Belize's couples-only private island. 16 cabanas, no children policy, three meals a day with the chef. If you want adults-only at the strictest reading of the term — no compromises, no exceptions — this is the resort.
03
Serenity at Coconut Bay
98
/ 100

Serenity at Coconut Bay

Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia·Adults Only·$9.7k / wk
The boutique 36-suite adults-only wing built into a larger Saint Lucia property. You get the calm of a small property with the dining options of a big one — a structural cheat code that very few resorts pull off well.
04
Grand Velas Boutique Hotel Los Cabos
98
/ 100

Grand Velas Boutique Hotel Los Cabos

Los Cabos, Mexico·Adults Only·$14.1k / wk
Mexican luxury done right. Adults-only, every room is a suite, every suite has an ocean view. The Grand Velas brand is a known quantity in this category — Boutique Los Cabos is the smallest, quietest, and (predictably) priciest of their adults-only offerings.
05
Palafitos Overwater Bungalows
97
/ 100

Palafitos Overwater Bungalows

Playa del Carmen, Mexico·Adults Only·$15.4k / wk
The only overwater bungalows in North America, located inside the larger El Dorado Maroma. Adults-only by category, 30 bungalows by count, Maldives-style ladders into the lagoon. The "where" is more important than the "what" with this one.
06
Hammock Cove Antigua
97
/ 100

Hammock Cove Antigua

Antigua, Antigua·Adults Only·$11.0k / wk
Antigua's flagship boutique adults-only. 42 villa suites, every one with its own infinity plunge pool. The butler service is included, not pitched as an upsell — which matters more than it sounds.
07
Pine Cay (13+ Allowed, Alcohol not included)
97
/ 100

Pine Cay (13+ Allowed, Alcohol not included)

Pine Cay, Turks and Caicos·Adults Only·$20.5k / wk
Caveat city: 13+ allowed (so it's "adults only" with a low bar), and alcohol is not included. But it's a private island in Turks and Caicos with 12 rooms, and if you want quiet over open bar, this is the score-95 pick. Worth knowing the trade before you book.
08
Jade Mountain Resort
96
/ 100

Jade Mountain Resort

Soufriere, Saint Lucia·Adults Only·$19.3k / wk
Saint Lucia's open-wall sanctuary suites, no fourth wall, view of the Pitons. Often called the most romantic resort in the Caribbean — true if your definition of romance is compatible with no air conditioning in the standard rooms.
09
The Caves
96
/ 100

The Caves

Negril, Jamaica·Adults Only·$4.1k / wk
Negril, Jamaica. 12 cottages built into the actual cliffside caves, adults-only, the only Jamaica entry on this list and the highest-scored adults-only option in the country. Score 96 at $4,147/week — by far the best value at this score tier.
10
Excellence Riviera Cancun
96
/ 100

Excellence Riviera Cancun

Puerto Morelos, Mexico·Adults Only·$4.6k / wk
The conventional pick, included for completeness. 18+, 460 swim-up suites, eleven restaurants — much bigger than everything else on this list. If you want adults-only scale (more amenities, more bars, more pool deck) instead of adults-only intimacy, this is your call. Score 96 at $4,603/week is hard to beat at this size.

What to actually pick

If you want romance without compromise: Coco Plum (Belize) or Hammock Cove (Antigua) — couples-only or boutique, no scale issues.

If you want value: The Caves (Jamaica) at $4,147/week is the single best score-to-price ratio on the list. Excellence Riviera Cancun is $4,603 if you want the bigger-scale version.

If you want the photograph: Palafitos for overwater, Jade Mountain for the Pitons, Nayara Bocas for the jungle archipelago.

The honest gap

Honeymoons get their own list — the filter is tighter and the picks are different. Couples-only enforcement matters more, room categories with privacy matter more, and some adults-only resorts that are great for "a long weekend with my partner" don't quite earn the honeymoon stamp. Read the honeymoon guide for that breakdown.

For everyone else: this list is the answer. Filter the Finder for Adults Only and sort by score, and you'll see the same names — plus the next 20 if you want to widen the search past the front of the pack.
