The swim-up list.
Of the 957 all-inclusives in our index, 162 offer swim-up rooms. These are the 10 that score 92+ across our eight sources — the ones where the swim-up suite is the actual draw, not a marketing tag.
Two things are true about the swim-up suite. First, it's one of the most high-search-volume features in the entire all-inclusive category — people specifically search for it. Second, the actual product varies wildly between resorts. A real swim-up is a private terrace where you step directly from your room into a shared pool you can swim across. A bad swim-up is a room with a door to a strip of concrete next to a chlorinated rectangle that happens to be deep enough to wade in.
The difference matters. We pulled the 162 resorts that offer swim-up rooms (per their published room categories), then filtered for the ones scoring 92+ on our aggregate index — meaning the resort itself is excellent and the swim-up feature is part of what makes it excellent, not a checkbox.
What "swim-up suite" actually means at a good resort
- Direct pool access from the terrace — not a corridor between the room and the pool
- The pool itself is a real pool, not a glorified plunge — typically connecting 8-20 rooms around its perimeter
- Adults-only or zoned — the best swim-ups are in adults-only sections because kids and "I'd like to swim across to my private terrace" don't mix
- The view from the bed is the pool, not the parking lot — sounds obvious; you'd be surprised

How to actually choose
Couples on a budget: Beloved Playa Mujeres or Excellence Riviera Cancun. The first is couples-only and intimate. The second is at scale (460 swim-up suites!) but cheaper.
Honeymoon-grade: Secrets Maroma Beach or Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana. Both adults-only, both with the swim-up category in the higher room tiers, both with actually-great beaches.
Family with a swim-up wish: Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana. Most swim-up properties are adults-only, but the Hyatt Ziva line is the family counterpart and includes swim-up suites in its higher room categories.
Outside Mexico: JOIA Rose Hall (Jamaica) or Sandals Dunn's River (also Jamaica). Mexico dominates this category in our data; if you've already done Mexico, Jamaica is the next stop.
What we left off
The honest gap: many of the highest-scoring swim-up resorts cluster in just two countries — Mexico (60% of our top 10) and the Dominican Republic (30%). That's not us picking favorites; it's where the major chains (Excellence, Secrets, Hyatt, JOIA, Sandals) have built their swim-up inventory. If you want a swim-up in Saint Lucia, Antigua, Aruba, or elsewhere, the inventory exists but the score-to-price math generally favors the Mexico/DR options unless you have a specific reason for the location.
The other gap: "swim-out" vs. "swim-up" can mean different things at different resorts. Some properties use "swim-out suite" to mean a room that opens directly into a private plunge pool (closer to a villa product), while "swim-up suite" means access to a shared community pool. Always check the property's exact room category description before booking — the words are interchangeably misused across the industry.
To filter the rest yourself, the Finder supports filtering by special room options including swim-up — there are 162 matches and the list extends well past the top 10 if you want something specific (a particular country, price ceiling, or family configuration).
